They called him “Mad Dog.” Jim Mandich was a professional football player for the Miami Dolphins before he turned to broadcasting. In 2011, he passed away after a long struggle with bile-duct cancer. He was 62 years old.

Thus, in honor of the late Jim “Mad Dog” Mandich, the annual “Mad Dog” Mandich Fishing Classic will be taking place on October 3 and 4 this year in Islamorada. The Mad Dog Classic will be hosted at Ziggie & Mad Dog’s Restaurant, MM 83 bayside. This 2014 fishing tournament will consist of an Offshore Division as well as an Inshore Division. This family fun weekend is for all who love to be with their family, friends, and community for a great weekend of fishing and fellowship. One of Jim’s dying requests was that the Mad Dog Classic continue on in the future and that more awareness and financial support is given towards important organizations, much like Mariners Hospital Oncology Services. Therefore, a portion of the proceeds of this event will benefit Mariners Hospital Oncology Services.
